The dime box frankenset, Page 64: Numbers 568-576

Last week's frankenset voting wasn't very climactic.

Win -- 1976 Topps #564 Kurt Bevacqua (20 votes)

Place -- 1991 Topps #566 Craig Wilson (4 votes)

Show -- 1993 Upper Deck #561 Ricky Jordan (3 votes)

As you might expect, the bubble-blowing Kurt Bevacqua won by a comfortable margin, becoming just the fourth card to crack the 20-vote barrier.

The 30 total tallies was the lowest turnout we've seen in a while (and an eleven-vote drop from last week), but it didn't have much of an impact on the final results. I, of course, voted for Bevacqua.

It's the third straight victory for vintage.

Vintage has a chance to make it four straight this week.

Let's meet our nine newest frankenset contestants.

1991 Score #568 Bob Welch

Straight from a horror movie and into your living room.

2013 Topps #569 Ryan Ludwick

Some home plate hijinks.

2013 Topps #570 Devin Mesoraco

This rather devilish play at the plate is the second straight Red from 2013 Topps in this page.

1988 Score #571 Jim Walewander

I still can't believe the Dead Milkmen (one of my favorite bands) garnered a mention on the back of a baseball card.

1994 Topps #572 Roberto Hernandez

Dig the throwback cap.

1979 Topps #573 Jim Kern

The happiest ballplayer in the history of cardboard.

1973 Topps #574 Bob Didier

A dusty play at the plate from the immortal '73 Topps checklist.

1995 Stadium Club #575 Mike Ignasiak

Feels like we only go backwards.

2006 Upper Deck #576 Matt Belisle

We close this week's page with a fun signing-with-glove-on-head shot.

The polls are now on the sidebar.

Happy voting!

The important thing to ask is how Jim Walewander is gonna get to the Shore... Maybe he's got a bitchin' Camaro!

I had to go with Didier and the Cleon Jones cameo. One thing I just noticed about that card... Is the guy behind Didier wearing shinguards? ...When Didier is the catcher? Hmmmm....

Last week was a no-brainer... but this week is an eenie-meenie-miney-mo week. Ended up with Welch, because I'm an A's fan... and how often do you see a guy's hand represent the player on a ball card.

Dead Milkmen are always good, but if you ain't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin'.

I met Walewander when he was with the Tigers, and, despite being a little off center as you might expect, he was a genuinely nice guy.

My favorite story about him that I recall was that he had aluminum foil for curtains in his apartment in the minor leagues and that he bought all of his clothes in the thrift shop 25 years before Macklemore and Ryan Lewis thought they invented the idea.

And that Jim Kern card? May have been the only time Kern ever smiled. He looked like a serial killer otherwise.
