Zero-Year Cards, Part 2

2008 Topps Heritage #378 Johnny Estrada (Mets)
In my previous "Zero-Year Cards" post, I mentioned that many of these types of cards involve a player who was drafted by an organization, but was dealt before playing a major-league game with that team.

The Johnny Estrada card you see above is one of the rare zero-year cards where this is not the case. Johnny Estrada was a Met for just twenty-two days in 2007 (from November 20 to December 12), yet he's had a card issued of him in a Met uniform. So why'd he have a card issued as a Met? I'm not sure...

The Mets hat is an obvious "photoshop" job covering up his affiliation with the Brewers from the previous year (newer cards do a much better job of this than some of the 1970's Topps issues, but it's still noticeable, Topps!). Estrada would be out of baseball following his 2008 season with the Nationals.

Well, now we know that the initial shots for the 2008 Topps Heritage set were probably prepared somewhere between November 20 and December 12, 2007; thanks again baseball-reference!

And thank you, 2008 Topps Heritage, with providing me the next inductee into the "zero-year club".

As a Mets fan, I particularly like this one. I have it and I probably always will.

I have lots of cards that need a good home. If I was to look through them to find something to trade you, what should I look for. I read your collecting philosophy in a previous post, but it is unclear what you might like. Let me know.

Yeah, I can't blame you, I'm still not 100% sure what I collect myself haha.

One thing I like to collect is HOFer base and inserts if you have any of those, but only guys that played before the 80s (no Sandberg, Yount, etc.). With the current guys, it's a lot harder to specify exactly what I need. I collect Ichiro and Vladimir Guerrero if you have any of them.

Glad you like the Estrada card too!
