Let's make it "George Brett Day" here on "Dime Boxes".
I purchased this Brett beauty at the same card show as the 1975 Brett I previously blogged about.
Only this card was found in a dime box at that show. Now I just have one question: What was stopping Topps from putting more images like this on their cards? I don't think we'd be referring to it as "junk wax" today if more cards were like this one.
I had to double-check that this card was from '94 because I didn't think cards from that era could look as good as this one did. I have to admit I was analyzing the opposing teams' uniforms for a few minutes trying to figure out what the heck team the Royals were facing. Then I noticed "Brewers" on the scoreboard in the top-right corner.
The '94 design isn't the best Topps ever produced, but it works well with this card. It captures the split-second moment after the ball leaves Brett's bat, which looks like it wound up being one of his 149 hits in 1993. The backdrop is what makes this card so great. I've never seen another card that shows the "waterfall" in Kaufmann Stadium.
In terms of simply photo quality, this one may be the cream of the crop of the "junk wax" era.

That was probably this game, on June 6th, 1993.
The pitcher out there is Jaime Navarro, and according to the play-by-play, in the bottom of the 2nd with one run in already, Brett grounded out to 2nd base on a 2-2 count.
I was hoping it would be a hit, too.
