The dime box frankenset, Page 45: Numbers 397-405

Well, I'll be.

For the second straight week, we have a tie in our frankenset voting. Rettenmund held a narrow lead for most of the week, but a late vote this morning pushed he and the Dick Green double play into a tie. As it stands, both sit at nine votes a piece. (My vote went to Mr. Green.)

We'll be deciding this tie the same way as we did last week. I ask the first three people who care to comment on this post to leave their choice between Dick's double dip or Mervelous Merv. (No, "Dick's double dip" doesn't sound right to me, either.)

Whichever card receives two of those three tie-breaking votes will be our new frankenset champion.

EDIT: We have a winner!

Win -- 1974 Topps #392 Dick Green (9 votes + tie-breaking vote)

Place -- 1971 Topps #393 Merv Rettenmund (9 votes)

Show (tie) -- 1967 Topps #388 Arnold Earley, 1996 Score #394 Brent Gates, 1996 Topps #396 Rickey Bones (5 votes each)

In the meantime, let's take a look at this week's frankenset page, our first of 2015.

We're back to a full nine nominees this week.

2011 Topps #397 Sean Rodriguez

Double dipping with a Delmon Young cameo.

1997 Collector's Choice #398 Alex Ochoa

Baseball's version of American Gladiators.

1985 Fleer #399 Bill Gullickson

Good bunting form for a pitcher.

1994 Fleer #400 Jose Vizcaino

A nice Wrigley Field double dip from the hallowed "hero number" slot.

1994 Fleer #401 Rick Wilkins

Double your '94 Fleer pleasure with this fine play at the plate.

2008 Topps #402 Taylor Buchholz

The type of unabashed fun that I wish would make its way onto more Topps cards these days.

1998 Fleer Tradition #403 David Segui

Mr. Segui handing a signed copy of his 1997 Fleer card to a lucky fan.

1998 Pacific #404 Kevin Young

Pacific gets in on the frankenset fun with this spectacular Pittsburgh Grays throwback.

2014 Topps #405 Jason Kubel

The whole state of Minnesota knows that one's gone.

That's a wrap for this week's frankenset page. I've also added a new "Gallery of Frankenset Champions" to the top menu bar of this blog in order to keep track of all our winners thus far if you'd like to check it out.

Let's break last week's tie. Get those tallies in for this week's page as well, while you're at it.

The polls are now on the sidebar.

Happy voting!

I'll save the trouble and make it 3-0 for Mr. Green.

I've never seen the Bucholz card before. That's pretty awesome!

Love the photobomb on the Bucholz card. More like Buch-lolz!

Sorry to add an ATTBAT pimp, but...for some unknown reason, my blog is not updating on anybody's blogrolls, so please be sure to stop by ATBATT and check out my latest blog post.

Great looking card of Rick Wilkins. That's one of the good examples of how a Catcher's card must be.
