The Frankenset Bracket: The championship

We're down to our last two now.

#3 (Page 3) -- 1972 Topps #19 Billy Cowan (21 votes)

def.

#2 (Page 63) -- 1976 Topps #564 Kurt Bevacqua (13 votes)

#1 (Page 70) -- 1973 Topps #627 Luis Alvarado (24 votes)

def.

#15 (Page 28) -- 1970 Topps #252 Lowell Palmer (11 votes)

All good stories must come to an end, and Lowell Palmer's book closed once and for all in last week's Final Four. It was a great run while it lasted, but defeating the immortal Luis Alvarado proved to be too tall of an order. In other news, the angelic Billy Cowan advanced to the championship with a comfortable win over bubble-blowing Bevacqua.

I'm sad to see Bevacqua go since his was one of the cards that convinced me to start this frankenset in the first place, but hey, brackets are full of heartbreak.

Okay, this is it.

You know who's in it, so here it is: the championship.

The polls are now on the sidebar.

Happy voting!

I have to admit, I like both the "Final Four losers" better than the finalists... But given the choice in front of me, I have to go with Cowan.

Alvarado--a professional baseball team playing on what looks like a sandlot with a boatload of 70's cars in the background.

Can't get much better than that for me

Cowan's psychedelic halo was my favorite from the start.
This piece of underappreciated cardboard is a quintessential Dime Box suspect, being of solid set design matched with subtly brilliant photo 📷 selection. A true champion 🏆 for all, one that can heal the divide. Make this hobby great again!
