The Gems of Junk Wax: Looking forward

Now that we're stepping into the next chapter of "The Gems of Junk Wax", I'm all smiles.

The March Madness-esque tournament challenge I held on this blog was an absolute success, if you ask me. Writing those posts and gutting out some close matchups was nothing short of extraordinary.

After crowning a champion earlier this month, I'm ready to start nominating some new "gems" for the theme. (You can bet Mr. Hall there will get his own GOJW post at some point down the road.)

Trouble is, I'm still not exactly sure how I want to do it.

I've juggled around three different options over the past few days.

If I want, I can simply keep things the way they were. I select some of my own favorite treasures of the overproduction era, scan 'em, and post about 'em on a somewhat regular basis around here.

It worked for the first year-plus on the blog, and I sure had fun going through my binders and picking out a few favorites.

Still, I'm not sure how exciting that is for my readers. I'm sure a lot of you have some "gems" that I've never seen before...which leads me to the second option.

In continuing the "Gems of Junk Wax" theme, I thought it might be helpful to take suggestions from my readers. I'm sure I've overlooked a whole bunch of post-worthy overproduction era treats from my own collection.

Or, if you happen to be sitting on extra copies of a few of your favorite gems, I'd be more than willing to make small PWE swaps for future GOJW nominees.

The third option, however, is probably the most radical of all.

Lately, I've been throwing around the idea of starting another blog entirely devoted to the "Gems of Junk Wax" topic.

While featuring individual "gems" would likely be the center of my writings, the blog would include various other posts about overproduction era cardboard as well.

I think it'd be fun to have an all-junk wax blog around here. Given the long tenure of the theme around here, it may be time to branch things out a bit.

Still, I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on an entirely new blog because a) I'm not sure how popular the idea would be, and b) I'm not sure how much extra time I'll have with school starting next month. It can be tough juggling one blog at times.

But, if enough people think an overproduction era-centric cardboard blog would be fun, I may have to seriously consider it for the future.

For now, though, I'm leaning towards option number two. I have a few future GOJW nominees in mind, but I'd love to hear about other gems that I may have missed the first time around.

Starting a new blog isn't entirely out of the question, either. It's certainly something I've wanted to do, and I'd certainly be open to suggestions on the matter.

No matter what, though, you can bet on the "Gems of Junk Wax" theme being around the blogosphere for a long, long time.

It's been a blast so far.

I think you should do a combo of #'s 1 and 2. For your next tourney though you should pick 32 new entrants and 32 holdovers (the 31 2nd rounders and the 1st rounder that lost to Bo). Not only will that speed up the time to get to the next tourney, but it will also save the next one from suffering from an NIT-type flak of being 65th best. Just a thought.

I like idea number two, and I'll keep my eyes peeled for a nominee or two to send your way.
