Ode to the inside-the-park home run

It's been a beautiful evening for baseball.

We're tied, 2-2, here in the bottom of the ninth. Two out. It all comes down to this. The game, the season, the fate is in the hitter's hands.

He could be the hero.

The pitcher sets.

He's into his windup, and THE PITCH!

Whoa, look out!

Just inches away from his chin.

Lucky he ducked out of the way in time.

He didn't appear to like that one bit.

He and the catcher are having words as he steps back into the box.

The pitcher sets, winds, you can see the intensity in his eyes...

...and THE PITCH!

[crack]

He got a hold of that one!

He chugs out of the box!

He's rounding first and heading for second!

Extra bases for sure.

It's still rolling!

All the way to the wall!

He's rounding second and heading for third!

Turning on the jets!

The right fielder tracks it down, hits the cutoff man, so he'll have to stop at...

WAIT...

...THEY'RE WAVING HIM HOME!!!

GO!!!

SLIDE, SLIDE!!!!

HERE COMES THE THROW!!!!

HE IS...

[silence]

SAFE!!!

SAFE!!!

SAFE!!!

GAME OVER!!! SEASON OVER!!! THEY'RE THE CHAMPS!!!

A game-winning inside the park home run!!!

How do ya like that?!?!

It's an absolute mob scene down on the field!

I'm sure there's a long celebration for them waiting in the clubhouse!

Just when you think you've seen it all in this game, folks.

Think again.

These are the kind of goofy post ideas that come to me at one in the morning.

That sounds better than a kid crawling into bed and waking me up at 1 in the morning. Great post.

Ka-Ching!

That Reyes card is a great fielding card and he is running the bases. Nice find.

If your up for it, The 5-4-3 Triple Play would be a good subject for one of these.
