Score never put out an overly great base set. Often times, they get lost in the mix with all the other card companies that began to rise during the 1980's and '90s.
I only bought these cards because I needed them for a couple of my numerous player collections. I'd never even heard of the set before, much less seen any of the cards.
When I pulled them from the package, I was surprised to see how great they were, to say the least. They were way better than I'd expected them to be.
I've got over a hundred different Mark Grace cards. But this one is definitely one of my favorites of his.
I can't tell if the shots on the front of these cards are paintings or enhanced photos. If I had to guess, I'd say they were hand-painted.
Image-wise, this one is definitely more striking than the Grace.
The "black hole"-like backdrop serves as a perfect contrast to the shot of Julio Franco's afterswing.
These were only issued in factory sets. That might be why I'd never seen them before, as it's much harder to pick up singles of sets that were only available via factory sets as opposed to individual packs.
The Grace and Franco cards are the only ones I currently own from the '89 Scoremasters set.
But I only needed to see one of them to realize its greatness.
