The cure

When baseball season is upon us, I try to savor each and every day of it to the best of my ability. When it's gone, I can't stop counting down the days until it starts again.

As a result, it leaves very little time to get into any other sport. Of course, I was actually excited to watch some football today, and all it did was make me miss baseball even more. The Ravens are one of the precious few teams I actually care about in the NFL, and they had to go and lose a game like that. I guess it's going to be another year where I don't care about the Super Bowl. Oh well.

But baseball cards cure all.

I recently received about 300 Pacific-brand cards from the late-90s. It was one of the funnest packages I've opened in a while. It's really hard to find late-90s stuff anywhere, and I've had an especially hard time finding anything from Pacific.

The Rickey Henderson card at the top of the post cured my baseball-itis today. It was easily my favorite card from the Pacific trade package.

It's just so...cool. I can't think of a word right now that better exemplifies it.

There's plenty of cards of guys taking their leads off first or second base, but how many can you find that show a guy leading off third base? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Plus, it's the all-time stolen base champ. Does it get any better?

Anyways, what was I talking about? Something that had to do with football, I think.

Spring training can't come soon enough.

The leading off third is a great underused photo for a card.

I am trying to make out what it says on the base. It looks like the logos of the Mets and Padres. They never met in the playoffs though. The Padres played the Astros, Braves, and Yankees in the 98 Playoffs. Maybe someone with more skills than me at identifying can weigh in.

It looks like some sort of Spanish Heritage series or something. From what I can make out on the base, it looks like it says "...iera Serie". I'm pretty sure "serie" is Spanish for "Series".

Can't be sure though. It's a cool card, that's all I know hehe.

In 1996 the Padres played the first ever regular season game outside of the US or Canada in Monterrey, Mexico against the Mets. It was called "La Primera Serie".

I've never seen those cards before, but that Rickey Henderson is sweet!

I should've known it would be Dodgerbobble to come through with an answer. Thank you for letting me finally stop researching, cause I was getting nowhere very slowly.

Very cool to know that I've got a card of a big-league game played in Mexico.

Thanks for the info!

I just watched the movie "The Perfect Game". It wasn't a good movie, but it piqued my interest in baseball in Mexico.
