The dime box frankenset, Page 44: Numbers 388-396

As luck would have it, last week's frankenset voting ended up in a deadlock.

Both Daniel Descalso's deadly throwback/double dip/Japanese oddball combo and Josh Willingham's beautiful stadium shot (with a cameo from Willingham himself on the jumbotron) ended up taking eleven of the 32 total votes. (I voted for the Descalso, for the record.)

It's the second tie in our frankenset history thus far, and we'll be resolving this one the same way as the first.

I'm asking the first three people who read this post to leave a comment with their choice between Descalso and Willingham. Whichever card receives two of those first three tie-breaking votes will be this week's frankenset king.

I'll update this post once we ultimately decide on a champion.

EDIT: We have a winner!

Win -- 2012 Sega Card-Gen #384 Daniel Descalso (11 votes + tie-breaking vote)

Place -- 2014 Topps #385 Josh Willingham (11 votes)

Show -- 1995 Upper Deck #387 Don Slaught (3 votes)

In the meantime, let's take a gander at this week's frankenset nominees.

Sadly, the last page of 2014 contains an unsightly gap, as I still haven't found a worthy occupant for the #390 slot.

Nevertheless, let's meet this week's group of fun frankenset contestants.

1967 Topps #388 Arnold Earley

Sweet shades, vintage bro.

1994 Upper Deck #389 Felix Fermin

1994 Upper Deck isn't one of my favorite sets, but this sure is a nice double dip.

1994 Collector's Choice #391 Chris Bosio

An autograph shot from the current Cubs pitching coach.

1974 Topps #392 Dick Green

A beautiful vintage double dip, and one of the last of its era.

Topps wouldn't print horizontals again for another seventeen years after this.

1971 Topps #393 Merv Rettenmund

I've probably looked at this card a couple dozen times, and I still can't tell what the heck is going on.

1996 Score #394 Brent Gates

A rather ferocious double dip from the people at Score.

1997 Upper Deck #395 Ramon Martinez

A pitcher laying one down at Wrigley.

1996 Topps #396 Ricky Bones

Our last frankenset nominee of the year is a member of the Cardboard Inception series, as Ricky Bones is seen holding a copy of his 1995 Topps card here.

That does it for the dime box frankenset in 2014. I'd like to thank everyone who has voted on these pages so far. Going the way of the polls with these posts is one of the best blog ideas I've ever had. The frankenset is in great shape going into 2015.

Let's break last week's tie and start getting those votes in for this week's page.

The polls are now on the sidebar.

Happy voting!

Descalso. Japanese + throwbacks = winner hands down. Shame on you that voted for the other card!

I know you you are - I will be visiting your house.

Descalso. I'm the one that sent it to you ;).

I'll pick Descalso again, even though this vote doesn't really count.

Whoa, I've never seen that Merv card before. I'm a fan!

1991 Topps = 17 years later, though I had never thought about that before

Love that Arnold Earley card!

For #390, what about 2006 Upper Deck J.T. Snow? It's better than nothing. :-)

It's a very tough competition this time around, but I have to go with Arnold "License and registration, please" Earley.
