Last week's frankenset voting was a close one.
Win -- 1992 Pinnacle #596 Jim Gott (12 votes)
Place -- 1983 Fleer #603 Mario Soto (11 votes)
Show -- 1989 Score #595 Paul Gibson (8 votes)
It looked like Mario "Handle with Care" Soto had the crown in the bag for most of the week, but a late and unexpected surge from Jim "The Karate Kid" Gott stole the victory by a one-vote margin, 12-to-11. The 43 total tallies were the most we've seen in a while, and I thank people for hitting the polls.
I personally voted for Mr. Gibson because of the sheer hilarity of Tiger infielder Luis Salazar (not Alan Trammell, as I had previously believed) making a cup adjustment in the background.
That makes two straight weeks that I've voted for the eventual third-place finisher.
We have a fresh batch of nine new nominees on this week's page.
Let's meet them, shall we?
1991 Upper Deck #604 Jim Vatcher
Subliminal Nike advertising?
1991 Topps #605 Jeff Reardon
The curious case of the floating baseball.
1992 Pinnacle #606 Randy Tomlin
I pity the hitter who has to face the Vulcan change.
1989 Topps #607 Willie Ansley
That cartoon bulldog is freaking me out.
2005 Topps #608 Luis Gonzalez
You don't see serene pre-at-bat shots like these on cards too often.
1992 Pinnacle #609 Charles Nagy
More from Pinnacle's "Grips" subset with Charles Nagy's devastating slider.
1992 Pinnacle #610 Tom Candiotti
Another "Grips" suspect with Tom Candiotti's fluttering knuckler.
1993 Upper Deck #611 Francisco Cabrera
The 1992 NLCS hero himself showing off his hops.
1993 Upper Deck #612 Rey Sanchez
We close with a tilted turning two shot on "tattooine."
The polls are now on the sidebar.
Happy voting!

Close matchup this week... I went with Vatcher for reasons I don't myself understand.
I went with Ansley for sentimental reasons. That card is in my son's pile of junk wax cards. Every evening when I'm cleaning up after him once he's in bed, that card jumps out as I'm putting them back in his bin.
I completely missed voting on this one. Sorry Nick, I think that's the first time that's happened.
