Here's how last week's frankenset voting turned out.
Win -- 1992 Score #367 Matt Merullo (15 votes)
Place -- 1998 Topps #365 Jermaine Allensworth (10 votes)
Show -- 1992 Upper Deck #369 Greg Briley (5 votes)
It was basically a two-horse race between Merullo and Allensworth. Both are amongst my favorite cards in the entire frankenset. They're basically 1a and 1b as far as last week's page is concerned.
I ended up giving the slight nod to Mr. Allensworth because of my weakness for nice shadow shots, but Merullo is certainly deserving of the victory. The former South Side catcher took fifteen of the 35 total votes last week.
Better yet, I was able to pinpoint the awesome PATP to a specific date. From what I can gather, it likely took place in the top of the 2nd in a game between the Mariners and White Sox on June 27th, 1991. Pete O'Brien was gunned down at the plate after a double by Jay Buhner, with home plate ump Al Lopez making the call.
The joys of Baseball Reference never end.
Here's our next batch of nominees.
I haven't yet found a worthy nominee for slot #375, so we'll only be choosing between eight contestants this week.
Let's meet them, shall we?
1989 Upper Deck #370 Jody Reed
An action-packed double play from UD's inaugural year.
1994 Upper Deck #371 Joey Cora
I'm not 100 percent certain this is a double dip, but it's a fantastic card either way.
1994 Leaf #372 Manuel Lee
It could just be the camera angle, but it sure looks like Mr. Lee whiffed on that throw.
1997 Topps #373 Jose Rijo
Groundskeeper Jose!
It's worth noting that Rijo would not have another card produced until 2001.
1995 Topps #374 Lenny Webster
A memorable catching pose from the vastly underrated 1995 Topps checklist.
1973 Topps #376 Frank Duffy
Violent slide, cloud of dust, leaping infielder.
What more could one ask out of a double dip?
1995 Collector's Choice #377 Lance Parrish
A serene autograph shot from the mini-collection goldmine that is Collector's Choice.
1994 Collector's Choice #378 Derek Parks
See?
Only Collector's Choice would give such a great PATP to a guy who played in exactly 45 career games.
With that, yet another frankenset page comes to a close.
The polls are now on the sidebar.
Happy voting!
Huh, I don't think I even realized Lance Parrish played for the Pirates towards the end of his career. For that alone, he gets my vote!
ReplyDeletei'll vote for parrish, too. he's in dodger stadium (i need that card for my chavez ravine collection) and there's a dodger usher with the straw hat in the background. good stuff all around.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the Rijo.
