Please Mr. Postman (A trade post) -- The best trade ever!

Yesterday, I opened what might be the best trade package I've ever received in my trading career.

And it was all thanks to one card, which we'll save for the final part of the post.

A few days ago, I agreed upon a trade with Dhoff, author of the fantastic blog "Coot Veal and the Vealtones". (Or should I say Dr. Vealtone?)

His is one of my favorite blogs out there for a couple of reasons. For one, the writing is superb and I love following his trek for Tigers cards. Secondly, he appreciates the value of a good dime box as much as anybody I've ever seen. And he's certainly unearthed his share of gems from them. Just read this post.

While they weren't the main focus of the trade, Dhoff sent me a bunch of great cards for my various player collections. Any serial numbered Ryan Dempster card is always a plus, and I love the shade of blue Bowman used for their blue parallels last year.

Also included were a smattering of Mark Grace cards.

I love that little league card of his, from aptly titled subset "Little Hotshots".

A couple of absolutely beautiful inserts here.

It's hard to believe that the Olerud comes from 1994, quite possibly one of the worst years in terms of card design.

Dhoff also included some random Cubs cards in the trade package.

I love the Jenkins card, although I'm not too sure what pose Fleer was going for with that shot.

The final card of the package was the one I mentioned earlier, the card that the entire trade was built around.

Dhoff contacted me about the Charlie Keller card from this post, asking if I would be open to trading it for another 1950's Bowman card. I never thought I'd ever deal the Keller, but if I could get another early '50s Bowman card for it, I figured why not?

It would be going to a genuine Tigers collector, and someone who would appreciate the card more than I could. Isn't that what trading is all about?

Anyways, here's what the Keller netted me...

A 1950 Bowman card of Hall of Famer Enos "Country" Slaughter.

Wow!!!!

I'm still having trouble grasping the fact that I actually own this card now. Slaughter's always been one of my favorites from the "Golden Era". Plus, he's got one of the best "baseball names" in history.

I've thought about it, and I have to say that this is the best card I've ever received as a result of a trade, without a doubt.

Much, much, much thanks to Dhoff for the unbelievable cards!

  1. Wow, generous compliments. It means a lot. Glad you dig the Enos so much. That is what it's all about, trading a card to someone who'll really appreciate it, and Enos now has that home.
